Sound Designer
Tales from the Bad
Years
was a part of the
University of Minnesota Duluth Theatre Department season.
This musical review presented a new dynamic as it was still being
written, designed, and workshopped as our production was
developing. The playwright and composer, Kait Kerrigan and Brian
Lowdermilk, joined UMD on multiple occasions to structure the
performance and reshape the music all the way through final preview
and just before opening night. This presented unique challenges as
different arrangements of music and dynamics of the show were being
added all of the time.
In this snippet from the song Vegas I used several laser sound effects including a gunshot and several lasers. The song was a hilarious venture into the minds of a few very stoned men.
In this snippet from the song Living the Dream I used church bells to transition from a mournful lamentive song into a upbeat and exciting rap. Its an exciting use of sound effects with clear emotive responses.
Here is an example of how a preshow announcement can get the audience interested in the show straight from the get go. We immediately brought them to emotive quality of this show.
